Availability transformation: tornado aircraft contract (ATTAC)
"We developed a modelling and analysis capability for the ATTAC fleet management team to predict aircraft availability throughout the contract term and to aid identification of expected costs and revenues. The model provides clear visualisation of the issues impacting aircraft availability and enables rapid "what-if" analysis to be conducted. This includes examination of the impact of capability upgrades, changes in maintenance policy and variation in flying requirement."
How we helped
- Development of a model to examine
- Maintenance policies
- Resource availability
- Target availability levels
- Capability upgrade requirements
- Population of the model with real data from theTornado fleet.
- Conducted a series of "what-if?" analyses to aid development of the optimal support solution.
Who we worked with
The work was done for BAE Systems CS&S MASS, the business unit responsible for delivering support solutions, in partnership with the DLO IPT responsible for fleet management.
Outcome
- Increased confidence in new availability-based contract proposals.
- Contained costs through transformed fleet management practices.
- Predicted fleet availability throughout the contract term.

Useful insights
- Identified new ways to support an ageing fleet while maintaining availability within budget.
- Enabled potential cost, revenues and risks to be identified.
